What makes a great patient transport team?
We were recently asking ourselves what do we consider to be the top 5 qualities of a Health Connections Patient Transport Service Team Member?. What are the traits that we want to see in all our employees?
Now, it’s true that healthcare workers are generally very compassionate people, who are caring in nature. However, they also have certain other traits that make them excellent at their job. There are a lot of qualities that make a good healthcare worker. But we have found what we believe to be the top 5 qualities a healthcare worker must possess, and what we look forĀ in our own team:
Be empathetic and kind
Any act of kindness, no matter how small, goes a long way. Kindness is hugely appreciated by our clients and makes them feel that you really care about them.
The ability to multi-task
This skill is essential! You’ll often be juggling many different tasks, and often under time pressure. Our team can effectively deal with more than one task at a time, but at the same time, always ensuring the level of care remains high.
Stay calm under pressure
Our team always remain calm, no matter how stressful or difficult a situation has become. They know, that in a conflict situation, it is sometimes a better idea to take a step back from the client temporarily.
Be a good listener
Being a good and patient listener is one of the many qualities we look for in our staff. We know the importance of taking time to listen and to develop a personable relationship with our clients.
Have a cheerful demeanour!
A smile and a cheerful manner can go a long way to making someone feel at ease. It will help a client feel comfortable during what could be a really stressful and scary time.
